Reporting Academy Forum

Posted by runescape2 On June - 7 - 2009

We had a great response to our new Forum, the Reporting Academy, which contains useful information about when to send abuse reports. Thank you everyone who posted and asked questions.

The accuracy of the reports coming in has noticeably improved since its release. Due to the level of demand we鈥檝e been experiencing, we have now opened the second section of the Reporting Academy, which is certainly a recommended visit. In the meantime, here are some of the top tips available from the Reporting Academy.

Noob:

Being called a noob can be annoying. You may have a bad game of Castle Wars, for example, and find that a player follows you around afterwards, calling you a ‘noob’. As irritating as this may be to you, please do not report it unless there is something more serious that you’d like us to take a look at! If the player is really bothering you, add them to your Ignore List - that way, you’ll have no more trouble from them.

Filtered language **** ***:

It may be that you have wandered RuneScape and seen someone activate the in-game chat filter. The filter removes inappropriate words, so you do not need to send us a report. If a person is annoying you by continuously using the filter, we would advise you to use your Ignore List. To sum up: don’t report for starred-out language only, as the filter has done its job. Of course, if there is something other than starred-out language that you are concerned about, please send us a report about that player.

If you enjoyed those top tips, there are plenty more in the new update of the Reporting Academy. We look forward to seeing you soon on the Forums.

The Reporting Academy can be found in the ‘Support’ section of the official RuneScape GOld Forums.

Runescape: shop Improvement

Posted by runescape2 On June - 7 - 2009

You’ll find that the shops of RuneScape have received a significant makeover this week. Most notably, turning away empty-handed from a shop will be a thing of the past, with infinite stock available from almost every store.

Each shop’s stock is now split into two tabbed sections - ‘Main Stock’ and ‘Player Stock’. ‘Main Stock’ houses an infinite number of items available for you to buy, while the ‘Player Stock’ tab displays all of the items that have been sold to the shop by players.

Price differs between these two sections. The ‘Main Stock’ is more expensive, but generally guarantees a constant value and an infinite supply that you can rely on. ‘Player Stock’ offers items at a lower price than the shop stock, but stock levels are variable. It’s always worth checking this tab for bargains!

These changes will mean that autoshoppers and bots can no longer make a profit from abusing the shop system. We are sure you’ll find this to be a very good thing - after all, we want RuneScape to be fun and not frustrating.

On that note, we’ve made additional changes to shopping, in an attempt to make it more fun and less frustrating. A ‘buy-x’ option has been added so that you do not have to spam-click when buying large quantities of stock. Also, the ‘Main Stock’ cost of certain skill-based items has increased. This is so that you still have an incentive for making your items or buying them from players who have the levels to produce them, rather than just buying from a shop runescape gold.

There is a page on the knowledge base explaining how to use the new shops and all the improvements in greater detail. We have also added information to some pages, explaining how to get those few items that are no longer obtainable from shops; to find out how to get battlestaves go here, and to find out how to get seaweed, go here.

Alternatively, go into game now to get some immediate retail therapy!

Runescape : Summoners Summon Summoning Skills

Posted by runescape2 On June - 7 - 2009

Strange obelisks have been spotted underground and in the farthest reaches of RuneScape. What could they be for? Who put them there? And what do they have to do with our new members-only skill, Summoning?

One obelisk in particular has been causing trouble for Taverley’s most well-known summoner, Pikkupstix, as a giant wolpertinger has used it to break free from the spirit plane. This pesky rabbit, wolf, reindeer…thing is now munching on Pikkupstix’s bedclothes, and the druid needs your help to do a spot of banishing…

So begins this week’s Wolf Whistle quest, which you will need to complete if you wish to start training the Summoning skill, in much the same way as Druidic Ritual opens up the Herblore skill.

To get more information on how to start Summoning, visit the Summoning - The Basics page in our Knowledge Base runescape gold.

Once you have completed the Wolf Whistle quest, you can begin raising your stats on your way to the Summoning skillcape! Some of the familiars you summon can help in combat, healing you or attacking with claws, paws, missiles or magic. This is reflected in an increase to the maximum Combat level, taking it to 138. This increased Combat level is not visible on free worlds.

Other familiars aid you outside of combat, including the ability to store items for you - like the pack yak, which acts as a temporary bank for 10 of your items. Some have slightly…stranger effects. Might ‘Fish Rain’ interest you?

New creatures - barker toad and bunyip - share room with those that are more ‘familiar’, like the smoke devil (the relative of the dust devil) and the spirit dagannoth. Those with a high enough Summoning level will even be able to talk to them - but beware runescape gold, they aren’t used to talking to humans…

You will recognise many familiars from previous newsposts, wallpapers, Development Diaries and Postbags from the Hedge, while others will be a complete surprise! There is such a wealth of familiars - 53 in fact - that it’ll take months for even the most persistent to master their abilities, special moves and Summoning requirements.

In addition, high-level Summoners will unlock an array of 22 new pets. New dogs are at the lowest level runescape gold, while the hardest pet to tame is…drum-roll…a dragon!

Phew! There is barely a moment to remind you of the extra batch of Summoning familiars and pets coming next month. If you think some of the creatures in this update are big, wait till you see what February brings…

Behind the Scenes

Posted by runescape2 On June - 7 - 2009

The first of April’s updates seems to attract abbreviations: F2P, PvP, OMG - all of these could be used to describe Fist of Guthix, our next combat minigame. We could say that this will be a safe, single-way, Wilderness-based game available to both free players and members, but that would ignore some important details. Attack strategies, defensive tactics, well-timed escapes: Fist of Guthix will employ all of these to create a memorable combat minigame.

There is a massive range of rewards to win for playing Fist of Guthix, so we’ll give you a wee teaser. The rune berserker shield, like most of Fist of Guthix’s rewards, degrades with use, but it also offers you some hefty defence bonuses and a Strength boost ; the battle robe set will sometimes pay for mind, chaos, death or blood runes that you use when casting a combat spell; and the Runecrafting gloves will double the experience you gain from crafting runes of the glove’s type!

Talking of rewards, where could you possibly find a top hat, animal mask, runescape gold, adamant cane and black crossbow? It could only be the Treasure Trails, and this month will bring our next installment. Among the new weapons, clothes and hats will be some brain-twisting new clues to untangle, ranging across the medium and hard difficulties.

It is at this point in the month that the skies will darken, a fog will descend and a bloodcurdling scream will echo out. What could bring on this strange and eerie change? Ah, it must be the fourth in our Myreque quest series: Legacy of Seergaze! With no help forthcoming from Misthalin and vampyres continuing to collect their scarlet tithes, the Myreque have been calling on mercenaries to aid their cause. Meanwhile, deep in Paterdomus, Drezel has found something strange that could shed light on Morytania’s gloomy past…

Not so gloomy are the graphical improvements to the Morytania entrance area and the icefiends of RuneScape. Expect Paterdomus temple and its grounds to become more grand and foreboding, runescape gold, and the icefiends a sight more icy and fiendish.

A nod must be given to the website updates. The Grand Exchange Database will be released this month, having had its image issues resolved, displaying graphs and statistics of Grand Exchange market prices. There’s also a Summoning guaranteed content poll, the latest Players’ Gallery and the Postbag from the Hedge

Play Runescape safely

Posted by runescape2 On June - 7 - 2009

Play Safely
RuneScape is a multiplayer adventure so, let’s face it, you are going to meet lots of new and exciting friends along your travels.

However, please remember you DO NOT know any of these people in real-life. This is not to say that they are not as nice in real-life as they act in RuneScape, they most likely are, but it’s important and best to keep a safe distance from your fellow RuneScape players in real-life.

For this reason, we have put together some helpful hints so you can be both safe and have fun in RuneScape.

1. DO NOT tell other players personal information. Not even if they claim to be Jagex staff!

Don’t tell ANYONE your real name, email address, home address, messenger handle or phone number. Use your RuneScape in-game friends list to chat and interact with the other players safely.

2. If someone is making you feel uncomfortable then you should not attempt to carry on a conversation with this person.

Please see our disruptive members guide for details on both how to ignore these players and reporting them, should they insult you directly.

3. Chatting of a sexual nature (aka cybering) is strictly forbidden in RuneScape gold and should someone approach you in-game with this type of chat, please follow the instructions in our disruptive members guide and report the player to us.

4. RuneScape gold is an ONLINE game. There is no need to meet anyone from RuneScape in real life. Remember, you only have the other player’s word that they are who they say they are. In addition, for our players’ safety, it is against the rules to ask for or give out personal information, so please do not do so. For further information about this policy, please read Rule 13.

If you decide against this and do plan to meet a RuneScape player in real life, please inform your parents or guardian what you are doing and have them accompany you to the meeting. DO NOT go alone.

5. Always keep your parents or guardians informed of how your game is going. It would be a good idea to introduce them to the game and encourage them to check on you regularly to ensure that your game remains problem-free.

6. If you need any help we are only a website form away. Please contact Customer Support and we will get back to you ASAP. Have fun and be safe. That’s what RuneScape money is all about!

Mini-games are often times played with friends or other players in RuneScape, and are meant to give you a “break” from the usual things in the game. Mini-Games

There are all sorts of mini-games available to Members of RuneScape, from fishing for rare fish on a leaky trawler boat, playing a game of Gnomeball with some not-so-nice Gnomes, to racing across a battlefield carrying a flag. There’s also one mini-game available to Freeplayers too, known as the Stronghold of Security. These are games within a game that are designed to give you a break from training your skills and just to have fun.

New June of Runescape

Posted by runescape2 On June - 7 - 2009

Instead of beginning with a starter or main course, we will skip straight to desert this June! If that pun doesn’t kill you, the beasties just might in Smoking Kills, our brand new desert quest. At the start, it won’t seem too dangerous: a red-headed citizen of Pollnivneach has lost her sister down a well and wants you to retrieve her. Explore the depths, however, and you’ll find yourself in situations more uncomfortable than sand between your toes.

Aside from a touch of trap-dodging and cat whispering runescape gold, Smoking Kills demands the best of seasoned slayers, who will need to use their resources in innovative new ways to survive. Those who manage it will find their Slayer skill improved, with extra gear, a new Slayer Master and some pretty special rewards that will raise their Slayer game.

So, we’ve had the sun and the sand - now fer the sea, me hearties! Rabid Jack has been pretty quiet recently, seemingly taking a holiday from his nefarious ways. That would be the perfect opportunity to gather information on the old sea dog, but the pirates of the great seas won’t say a word. Instead they will point you towards The Rock - the only prison in runescape gold where it’s harder to get in than out…

This, the second of our quests this month, will have you punishing your liver with Braindeath’s ‘rum’, finding imaginative uses for a seagull and getting up-close and personal with 50% Luke’s wooden leg! It’s all in a day’s work for an intrepid would-be pirate who’s used to Rocking Out once in a while.

At the end of the month, there will be a break of a couple of weeks with no game updates runescape gold. These two weeks are hugely important to us, as they allow us to prepare for the major graphical improvement in early July. It’s one of the most complex releases we’ve ever attempted, so we need the extra time to get it ready and make sure the launch goes smoothly.

RuneScape:Quick Chat

Posted by runescape2 On June - 7 - 2009

This week brings the Quick Chat system - an optional method for chatting to players in RuneScape.

You may activate the Quick Chat system by clicking on your name in the chat window or the speech bubble next to it. This brings up the Quick Chat menu, which replaces your chat window. You may revert to the normal chat system at any time by pressing ‘Esc’ or the ‘X’ in the top-left corner.

The Quick Chat menu houses a list of requests, responses, greetings and other commonly-used sentences runescape gold. You can choose from these by selecting them with your mouse or via shortcut keys. Once you have made your selection, your character will say your chosen chat option.

In some areas of RuneScape, you can press ‘F10′ to bring up ‘context-sensitive’ chat. This is a list of chat options that varies according to where you are or what you are training. You can then use this menu to talk about subjects related to the area or activity. We expect this to be particularly helpful in those situations where you need to give team directions: in minigames like Castle Wars and Pest Control, for example runescape gold, you will be able to suggest tactics at the touch of a few buttons.

We have also made Quick Chat available to muted players. We believe that this is a more suitable action to take against those who have previously abused the chat system. Additionally, Quick Chat can be used to chat with players on German worlds, since the system will translate whichever chat option you choose.

Due to the nature of Quick Chat, we cannot entirely predict how players will use it or what players will want from it. So, we would encourage any feedback that you have, to help us tailor the system to your chatting needs. To offer feedback, please post on the official Quick Chat thread in the Suggestions Forum runescape gold.

As we mentioned in this month’s Behind the Scenes, Quick Chat is optional and an alternative to conventional chatting

Duel Arena Tournaments and Changes

Posted by runescape2 On June - 7 - 2009

A large area, dating back to the Second Age, has been excavated beneath the Duel Arena, and what better use for it than a new player-vs-player minigame! This is the home of duel tournaments; a challenge for those who felt that only one round of fighting in a staked or friendly duel was a bit wimpy.

For those brave enough to take on up to 63 other players in a duel tournament, there is the potential to win 64 times your original entry fee: high stakes indeed to buy runescape money, for an event that will demand your very best.

Which leads to our second addition: Duel Tournament Rankings! Your duel tournament history will be recorded by your rank, which can be viewed from the Hiscores table if you have a rank of 1,900 or above.

The rank will determine which of four ranked tournaments you can enter; for example, high-ranked players can fight other high-ranked players in the 1,900 - 3,500 tournaments. With duel tournaments, you will always be facing opponents of a similar duelling ability to you, across a range of randomly generated tournament rules.

Your rank will also affect the size of the entry fee. Higher-ranked matches generally have higher entry fees, and there is the chance to win much more - up to 64 million gp!

To ensure that you have plenty of opponents, we are keeping duel tournaments to specific servers. Visit worlds 18,44,46,48,54,59,64,78,83,98,110,114,121,129,130 or 132 to spar with the very best that RuneScape has to offer. We are keeping an eye on the duel tournament activity on these worlds, so this selection may change.

There are a huge number of tournament rule combinations, gathered from player submissions and the recent Duel Arena poll, so no tournament will ever feel the same. Fancy fighting through six rounds with no food? Or four rounds with no armour? The variety is massive, offering a challenge for every type of player runescape gold, whether they are hungry to reach the top or happy to enjoy themselves.

To access the duel tournaments, travel down the stairs south of the Duel Arena Hospital.

Please read the knowledge base article here for more information.

Duel Arena Changes:

We have made some necessary changes to the above-ground staked and friendly duels of the Duel Arena:

There is now a cap to the amount a player can win in the space of 15 minutes in a staked duel, which is set to 3,000 coins. This limit will make it harder for real-world traders to unfairly use the Duel Arena as a covert way of transferring items. Of course, if you want to take part in some high-stakes duelling you now have the duel tournaments instead in runescape gold!
The gp value of any item wagered in a staked duel is defined by the ‘player value’. This ‘player value’ of an item will change according to any market fluctuations once the Grand Exchange has been introduced.
Logging out of a staked duel will mean that you have forfeited the match, and the staked items will go to your opponent.
Stats boosted before entering a duel will reset to their normal value at the start. You can still use potions during the duel, provided they haven’t been disallowed

Runescape: CoinShare and Grand Exchange Changes

Posted by runescape2 On June - 5 - 2009

Changes to CoinShare and Grand Exchange have been made in Runescape. Read below for the details.

Clan Chat owners now have the option to use CoinShare, an addition to the LootShare system that was requested by many of you on the Forums.

To start CoinSharing, LootShare must be activated on your clan channel. You can then choose ‘CoinShare’ from your Clan Chat Setup interface. It is an entirely optional addition.

CoinShare has no effect on the majority of items; they will still be allocated to members of the clan channel according to how ‘lucky’ they have been with previous LootSharing monster drops.

If you have CoinShare active, the following will happen if a monster drops something of great value, like a dragon chainbody:
The item is immediately put on the Grand Exchange, set at the current market price.
An equal amount of coins is dropped on the floor for each LootSharer. Each player can then pick their share up. The total number of coins is based on the item’s lowest value on the Grand Exchange.
